WIP reanimates ’Dorks’ comedy

erschienen auf hollywoodreporter.com

Warner Independent Pictures will remake the German comedy "Night of the Living Dorks," and has set Chris Bishop to write the script. Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Doug Davison are producing along with Adam F. Goldberg.

Described as "Revenge of the Nerds" meets "Shaun of the Dead," the story revolves around three not-so-cool school friends who decide to try an old voodoo ritual. When they later die in a car crash, they find themselves reborn as zombies, and try to take advantage of their new lifestyle.

The project fits snugly in the brand of geek comedies that Goldberg, whose writing credits include "Fanboys" and the "Revenge of the Nerds" remake, has been developing. Goldberg met Bishop while working on "Still Standing," and took him under his wing, shepherding his move to the film world.

Vertigo has made a name of developing remakes from other countries — it was one of the entities behind "The Departed," the Oscar-winning movie based on the Hong Kong film "Infernal Affairs" — but it usually has stayed in the horror and action-thriller genres. "Dorks" would be one of its first comedies.
